Dry Ice Blasting Safety Standards Los Angeles
Pure Zero Industrial's safety-first culture — OSHA-trained technicians, zero recordable incidents, LOTO certified, confined space entry trained on every job.
Questions about our safety program? — We're happy to discuss protocols and documentation before any project begins.
Safety Is the Foundation of Everything We Do
In industrial cleaning, safety is not a checkbox — it is the most fundamental prerequisite for every job we accept. Dry ice blasting involves high-pressure compressed air systems, cryogenic materials handled at -109°F, and operations in complex industrial environments that often include electrical hazards, confined spaces, and potentially hazardous contaminants. Done improperly, any of these elements can cause serious injury.
Pure Zero Industrial's unwavering commitment to safety is reflected in our long-standing record of zero recordable incidents on job sites. This is not a passive outcome — it is the result of rigorous pre-job hazard analysis, comprehensive technician training, strict PPE compliance, and a company culture that genuinely believes every incident is preventable.
Every Pure Zero Industrial technician completes comprehensive safety training covering dry ice blasting equipment operation, hazard recognition specific to our industry, PPE requirements for every application type, emergency procedures, and regulatory compliance before they ever set foot on a client's job site in Los Angeles or anywhere in Southern California.
Our Core Safety Values
Never Sacrifice Safety
Safety is one of our non-negotiable core values. We require full commitment from all employees and subcontractors to this principle on every job — no exceptions, no shortcuts, regardless of schedule pressure.
All Injuries Are Preventable
We firmly believe that every incident is preventable. This belief drives the way we plan, train, equip, and operate on every job site. If a task cannot be done safely, it does not get done until it can.
Trained for First Aid
In the event of an incident, we have crew members trained in first aid for immediate basic interventions. We do not rely solely on calling for outside help — our teams are prepared to respond immediately.
Full Regulatory Compliance
Pure Zero Industrial is dedicated to full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations — OSHA federal standards, Cal/OSHA state requirements, EPA environmental regulations, and any client-specific safety programs.
Our Safety Protocols
CO₂ Concentration Monitoring
Dry ice sublimates into CO₂ gas. In enclosed spaces, CO₂ can accumulate and displace oxygen to dangerous levels. Our crews use continuous atmospheric monitoring equipment on every job to ensure CO₂ levels stay within OSHA-permissible limits, and we deploy mechanical ventilation in all confined or semi-enclosed work areas before blasting begins.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
All technicians wear insulated cryogenic gloves, face shields, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots on every job — no exceptions. For specialized applications — contaminant remediation, confined space entry — full-body Tyvek suits, respirators, and supplied air equipment are used to protect our crews from site-specific hazards.
Compressed Air Safety
Our blasting systems operate at high pressure. Hoses, fittings, and nozzles are inspected before every job. We follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures on all connected equipment and maintain safe standoff distances at all times during blasting operations. Damaged or suspect equipment is removed from service immediately.
Noise Control
Dry ice blasting generates significant noise — typically 85–100 dB at the operator. All crew members wear hearing protection rated for the noise level, and we post noise hazard boundaries on job sites to protect facility workers and bystanders in the vicinity of our work areas.
Confined Space Entry
For jobs inside tanks, vessels, boilers, and other confined spaces, we follow OSHA's Permit-Required Confined Space standard (29 CFR 1910.146) in full — including trained attendants, documented entrant training, retrieval systems, and continuous atmospheric monitoring. We do not cut corners on confined space procedures.
Electrical Safety
Although dry ice is non-conductive, our crews identify all live electrical hazards before beginning work. We coordinate with your electrical team to establish safe working zones, verify de-energization where required by NFPA 70E, and ensure our work areas are clearly demarcated from any energized equipment we are not specifically authorized to work near.
Dry Ice Handling
Dry ice is stored and handled at -109°F. Cryogenic gloves and tongs are used at all times when handling bulk dry ice or pellet bags. We never store dry ice in airtight containers, and our vehicles are ventilated to prevent CO₂ buildup during transport to and from job sites.
Job Site Housekeeping
After blasting, removed contaminants and debris must be properly contained and disposed of according to applicable regulations. We maintain clean work areas throughout the job and remove all materials before departing. Clients frequently comment that our crews leave job sites cleaner than we found them.
Safety Data & Documentation
Upon request, Pure Zero Industrial can provide job-site safety plans (JHAs), atmospheric monitoring logs, technician certifications, LOTO documentation, confined space entry permits, and insurance documentation for your vendor records. We understand that many of our industrial clients — particularly in power generation, petrochemical, and food manufacturing — have strict third-party vendor safety programs with specific documentation requirements.
We are experienced with client safety pre-qualification processes and are prepared to provide the documentation your vendor management program requires. Questions about our safety program or specific certifications? Contact us before the project begins — we welcome the conversation.
